MacLeay Construction operates a division that specializes in restoration, preservation and adaptive re-use of period structures. Our philosophy is that every detail of the design, craftsmanship and history of a structure is an important part of the region’s heritage.
Be it residential, commercial or municipal, MacLeay Construction has the knowledge and experience to return usability to older structures while meeting the requirements of the twenty first century.
Our passion for the preservation of the past to benefit the future creates new challenges in the restoration arts. New building codes, Energy Codes and OSHA requirements must be strictly adhered to as well as maintaining the integrity of the original structure. It has been our objective to balance passionate interest in historical preservation with professionalism.
Our most recent public project was restoring the fifteen foot diameter cupola, architectural details and structural elements at the Lenox Library in Lenox, Massachusetts. The cupola was deteriorated and “sinking” into the attic of the library. We restored and preserved the cupola and added a structural steel ring that we embedded into the body of the cupola to make it hurricane proof and stable.
